Abstract:
The pattern of masses for the three families of quarks and leptons remains an open question in the Standard Model. In this framework, I will review the past and current status of a perturbative new family of fermions, either chiral or vector-like. The possibility for long-lived heavy quarks, propagating over large distances, will also be examined. As a conclusion, Beyond the Standard Model mass generation mechanisms will be discussed in the context of extended fermion sectors.
