Abstract:
We explore the possibility that millicharged dark matter may give an additional significant contribution to regular baryonic matter in the mechanism of spin down in a pulsar. We find that the pulsar braking index can be largely affected, departing from the canonical n = 3 value for the aligned rotator in some regions of the dark matter particle charge-to-mass ratio phase space. These results are not excluded by existing experimental constraints and allow to accommodate existing observations.
